The Colorado River Water Conservation District has received funding for a project to modernize agricultural water management within several Lower Gunnison River sub-basins. The purpose of the project is to improve water use efficiency by coordinating, expanding and integrating off-farm irrigation conveyance systems and on-farm water application efficiency improvements.
On December 1, 2016, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will host a Scoping Meeting to introduce the Watershed Plan-Environmental Assessment (Plan-EA) for the Lower Gunnison Project to local stakeholders. The purpose of this Scoping Meeting is to inform private citizens and regulatory agencies of the planned project and encourage feedback and public participation. Under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), NRCS is obligated to review the potential impacts on the natural and human environment associated with the project by conducting an EA. Public participation is encouraged.
