Colorado River Upper Division States’ Alternative
In early March, the Colorado River’s Upper Division Basin States (Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming) submitted an Alternative for Post-2026 Operations of Lake Powell and Lake Mead, to the Bureau of Reclamation.
The Colorado River’s Lower Basin Division States (California, Nevada, and Arizona) submitted a competing alternative.
We fully support the Upper Division States’ Alternative, which proposes operations designed to help provide water supply certainty and sustainability in the face of a drying and uncertain future.
Below are Colorado River Commissioner Becky Mitchell’s principles as she negotiates sustainable operations for Lake Powell and Lake Mead Post-2026.
