Severe drought conditions led the Uncompahgre Valley Water Users Association on June 13 to place a call on the Uncompahgre River.
Junior water accounts are shut off and senior water rights holders are reduced to the level called for under their decree.
“Once we place the call on, it’s no longer what is termed a free river. If someone has a senior water right to us, they get cut back to what their decree is. At that point, they can’t take any free (excess) river water,” UVWUA’s manager Steve Anderson said June 15.
