Irrigation Water Management
Irrigation water management involves using water strategically to grow crops. Measures to improve efficiency are taken to make the best use of available water. Conservation measures are taken to reduce the volume of water used, often leading to reduced yields.
Resources for irrigation methods and efficient water use:
- CoAgMET offers real-time evapotranspiration information for irrigators to use for scheduling purposes. CoAgMet stations in the Gunnison Basin are located in Gunnison, Montrose, Olathe, Delta, CSU Mesa Rogers Experimental Station, and Eckert.
- eRAMS is an additional resource that offers custom modeling and simulations to assist with irrigation scheduling. As powerful as it is, it does have a corresponding learning curve.
- The Natural Resources Conservation Service offers a comprehensive National Engineering Handbook specific to irrigation. This can be found on the NRCS Irrigation homepage
- The Colorado Ag Water Alliance is a great resource in general for the agriculture industry, including specific information on irrigation and agricultural water issues.
